I’m usually not someone who goes café-hopping just for the vibe, but this time, I tagged along with a friend who’s always on the hunt for new coffee spots. That’s how I ended up at Kerning Café (커닝) — a newly opened café near Jungangno Station in Daejeon’s Eunhaeng-dong area.
Apparently, this is the second branch (Kerning Bank Branch), which opened around September 2024.

☕ Atmosphere
Located on the second floor, Kerning has that modern, industrial-chic look: exposed concrete walls, glossy floors, and a color-coordinated lighting setup that gives off a calm, stylish vibe.

The space is surprisingly large, with plenty of seating and warm amber lighting — perfect for early evenings.
It’s one of those cafés that’s clearly built with Instagram aesthetics in mind: minimalist yet cozy, hip but not too loud.

I did feel the furniture choices were a little inconsistent with the overall tone, but the lighting tied everything together nicely.

📱 Ordering
Orders are made via a self-service kiosk, and instead of professional menu photos, they use fun, meme-style images — a cute touch that fits the playful brand image.
Most drinks are priced around ₩6,000, with drip coffee going up to ₩8,000 — a bit on the higher end for Daejeon. The menu is extensive, covering espresso-based drinks, lattes, ades, and dessert options.

🍰 Drinks & Desserts
Kerning offers a nice variety of cakes and sweets — not handmade, but high-quality delivered desserts priced around ₩7,000–₩8,000 per slice. I went for the lemon yogurt cream cake, and it was refreshingly tart and soft — a good balance between sweet and citrusy.
My friend ordered the affogato, which uses Sangha Milk ice cream — a local Korean dairy brand known for its rich, clean flavor. The espresso shot paired beautifully with the milky ice cream.
I tried the nuts coffee, topped with a nutty cream that had a strong peanut flavor — delicious!
However, the latte base itself was quite mild, so next time I’d rather have it as an espresso with cream on top.
At ₩6,500, the portion felt a little small for the price, but the taste was satisfying enough.

🪴 Overall Thoughts
Kerning Café feels like a polished, urban café with a relaxed mood — perfect for chatting with friends, working on a laptop, or just enjoying a slow afternoon.
It’s not the kind of café that focuses on specialty coffee, but rather on ambiance and design. Given that it already expanded to a second branch, the brand seems to have found its audience among locals who appreciate that clean, modern aesthetic.
If you’re exploring Daejeon and want a photogenic café with solid desserts and decent drinks, Kerning Café Bank Branch is worth a visit.
